Wine Country Beds
The best places we
call our "Home not-so-far away from home"
|
You're probably wondering
"What do the Divas know about local accommodations?
Wouldn't they
just stagger home to their own beds and save
their money for more
drinks the next day?".
Well, we Divas like to mix up the party! We frequently cohort as
follows:
Sharing a room in the City (aka San Francisco) with a bunch of party girls.
Hopping a plane to Vegas with 6 hours notice, ignoring that overdue cell phone bill.
Doing a "pub-crawl" around the Sonoma plaza where we stop in to
visit
our friends at every watering hole on the square, then stumble to a
welcoming hotel room.
New Review! See below.
Here are some places we've crawled to:

Ok, so you wouldn't know there is a
hotel here unless you had a Diva friend.
It's right above the
newly remodeled and opened El
Dorado Kitchen
(We haven't eaten there yet,
but we're looking
forward to it.)
We've
stayed there twice, once in a wedding party (whoa!) and once as a
night on the town with the posse.
Both times were memorable with
comfy
beds and soft pillows.
The location of the hotel is what really makes
it so ideal. You are right there. Right in the heart of it all.
The French doors overlooking the garden courtyard and the
Spanish Plaza make you feel like you're in another country.
That's what makes vacationing
in your hometown so much fun.
Even if
it's only for one night.

Down the road from the Square is the lovely MacArthur
Place with their friendly staff
at the front desk, their beautiful
gardens accented with original sculptures and artwork
and their
"carriage-house" buildings decorated in a historic,
Victorian style.
They have a fantastic restaurant on property called Saddles where you can get the
best steak in town (not to mention the
best dirty martini).
The first time I stayed at MacArthur, we were
given a room with a Murphy bed (a bed that folds up into
the wall) and
we loved it so much that we requested the room when we stayed there
again.
The shower fit 2 people comfortably (sometimes we stay here
with significant others) and there was
a little porch where we sat and
enjoyed our afternoon cabernet. They also had a wine and cheese happy
hour
in the library that could have been our meal if we didn't already
have reservations at Saddles.
MacArthur Place is located right on the
corner of Broadway and East Macarthur Street, 4 blocks from the plaza,
so opt for the 2 inch rather than the 3 inch heels if you plan on
walking.
I've never been
sober enough in the morning to take advantage of their spa, but I hear
the
Red Red Wine Grapeseed Bath is worth every penny. Hope you enjoy
your stay!

The Lodge at Sonoma
The best thing about The
Lodge is being there for an event. You get your glass of wine and
you walk
by the fountain in the courtyard and across the driveway to
the Stone Building and
it almost feels like you're a billionaire and
this is your home. You say hello to the other guests with a
proprietary hint in your voice and you throw your head back when you
laugh because you just don't
give a damn what other people think. You
are confident, brilliant, beautiful. That is how the Lodge makes us
feel.
Or maybe it's just the wine. Either way, you'll have fun whether
you're enjoying the local banter at the
granite topped bar in Carneros
Bistro (their restaurant) with the young, attractive bartender on the
other
side, or at the bar located inside the hotel that I can only find
when I've already had quite a bit to drink already.
I have made many
friends from all over the country in that bar, and I have drunk some
of the finest
whisky in the world there. Oh, if I could only find it
when I'm sober! The rooms look like small apartments
and have all the
amenities you would expect from a 4 star property. I love the louvered
window that opens up
to the bath tub! I have also had time to enjoy
their Raindance
Spa. It's small but well appointed and I had the
best facial of my
life there. Tell them the Divas sent you!

New!

Les Petites Maisons
New Fabulous Place to Stay in Sonoma!
Too new to crawl to yet, but we're coming!
Les Petites Maisons are run by the fabulous owner of the girl & the fig.
They are four cozy cottages
located about a mile from the Plaza. They have been beautifully
decorated with warm and cheery colors
and are the perfect vacation
rentals when visiting Sonoma. Each one comfortably accommodates
one or two people.
Each cottage comes with linens, towels, and fully equipped kitchens with
tableware, microwave and coffee maker.
There is also a common garden area with roses, a fountain and picnic
tables with umbrellas. If you want to
ride a bike or barbecue some chicken, just tell the caretaker and she
will make arrangements for you.
Here is where the shameless plug comes in: I am the caretaker!
Now that I have joined the fig team, I am taking over the
management of the cottages!
(It's one of my many duties and I am enjoying my new
role as innkeeper.)
Like most overnight accommodations
in Sonoma, you need to stay for
two nights (or at least pay for two nights)
We welcome all travelers and have booked a surprising number of locals
looking for a peaceful,
well maintained guest cottage in their own home town.
Further proof that you can live here your whole life and still be a
tourist in Sonoma. Les Petites
Maisons
